Statement

In the Sub-Rosa Suite I explore the graphical construction of the fine art print, focusing on the pared down elements that serve as a single common denominator throughout the suite, i.e. the silkscreen linework or digital wood veneer template. This constructive approach reflects notions of Industrial Revolution methodology represented in a graphical visual form.

My images materialize through the interleaving of graphic techniques – a play between mark-making and methods of transfer. The act of drawing is my choice means to create and recreate reality, where after, I employ reproductive elements of the printmaking medium.

Conceptually, I find the term “sub-rosa” pertinent, interesting and particularly relevant in critique of contemporary politics and culture. The term sub-rosa, or “under the rose” is used in English to denote secrecy and imply covert activity.
